Bring outdoors indoors!
A conservatory is a fantastic way to bridge the atmospheric gap between house and garden, so that you can enjoy the sense of the light and space of outdoors, but with more home comforts. Bear this in mind when you furnish your conservatory and try to keep the style light and natural.
Consider slate or natural terracotta tiles for the floor, with informal rugs to break the space up and for comfort underfoot.
Cane, bamboo or rattan furniture has just the right feel of lightness and informality, but can also be made to feel quite luxurious with throws and cushions. Wood and wrought iron also has its place.
Blinds are a better choice stylistically and more versatile than heavy curtains. You can adjust blinds for privacy without keeping the light out, and they can help shade the place in summer.
On the whole, avoid clutter. Go for minimal rather than cosy. You can soften the look with different sizes and shapes of leafy plants. Choose ornaments with care - a couple of striking coloured glass pieces, for instance, which look great with sunlight streaming through them, may be all you need.
